Tucked between Mexico and Guatemala, Belize is a small but mighty Central American gem packed with lush rainforests, ancient Mayan ruins, vibrant Caribbean culture, and the second-largest barrier reef in the world. It’s English-speaking, easy to navigate, and full of adventure—making it ideal for travelers seeking both chill island vibes and jungle thrills.

  • Currency: Belize Dollar (BZD) — fixed 2 BZD = 1 USD

  • Capital: Belmopan (but Belize City is the transport hub)

Is Belize Expensive?

Belize can fit many budgets. While upscale jungle lodges and island resorts exist, you can also find charming hostels, local food spots, and low-cost transportation.

Best Places to Visit

🏝️ Ambergris Caye

  • Belize’s most famous island, great for diving, nightlife, and beach bars

  • Visit Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley

🌿 San Ignacio

  • Inland jungle town, base for exploring Mayan ruins, caves, and eco-lodges

  • Tour Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) cave—a top adventure in all of Central America

🐠 Caye Caulker

  • Laid-back and budget-friendly island with the motto “Go Slow”

  • Snorkel, relax at The Split, and enjoy lobster season (June–Feb)

🏛️ Caracol & Xunantunich

  • Two incredible Mayan ruins in the jungle

  • Caracol is larger and deeper in the mountains; Xunantunich is easier to reach

🌊 The Great Blue Hole

  • Bucket-list dive site (or scenic flyover!)

  • 400-foot-deep sinkhole surrounded by coral atoll

Sample Itinerary (7–10 Days)

Day 1–2: Arrive in Belize City → Transfer to San Ignacio
